Dr. John Grillo


After graduating Phillips Academy, Dr. John Grillo attended the University of Massachusetts where he completed Bachelor’s Degrees in both Animal Science and English. In the absence of a veterinary program in New England, he traveled to Perugia, Italy, with his dog, Bobo, and a trunk full of dog biscuits. After thoroughly enjoying his stay in Italy, he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Perugia. Dr. Grillo returned to the states and began to practice veterinary medicine in Staten Island and later in Plainville, MA and Rochester, NH. In 1992 he opened Newbury Animal Hospital in Newbury, MA.

Always an ardent supporter of wildlife, Dr. Grillo spent several years volunteering weekly in the wildlife department at Tufts Medical School. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, he has a special interest in general surgery and internal medicine.

Dr. Grillo enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters as well as his four legged family consisting of two cats and two dogs. The cats are in charge. When he is not practicing veterinary medicine he enjoys sailing and occasional visits to his beloved Italy.

Dr. Alison Volturo

Dr. Alison Volturo


Dr. Alison Volturo is a Massachusetts native through and through.  After growing up surrounded by animals in Princeton, MA, Dr. Volturo moved to Boston where she attended Northeastern University and received her bachelor's degree in film and communication studies.  While pursuing a career in entertainment law, Dr. Volturo realized her true passion was veterinary medicine and returned to school to fulfill her dream.  Dr. Volturo received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2019 and could never imagine pursuing a different career.

Dr. Volturo enjoys practicing canine and feline internal medicine, with special interests in ophthalmology, surgery, and general dentistry. She is Fear Free Certified in feline handling and strives to make all her patients feel comfortable during their visits.  Dr. Volturo thoroughly enjoys the relationships she forms with clients and is continuously learning to ensure their furry family member are receiving the best care possible.

Dr. Volturo lives locally with her boyfriend and their cat, Jenkins and their dog, Leo.  Outside of the clinic, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, horseback riding, and spending time with family and friends.



Dr. Kasey Burgos

Dr. Kasey Burgos


Dr. Kasey Burgos grew up in Dracut, Massachusetts and now lives locally in Rowley. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science from the University of New Hampshire in 2016 and then went on to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine to achieve her doctorate degree.  Throughout her time in both undergraduate studies and veterinary school she spent a lot of time engaged in community service work building relationships with people to help serve and encourage others.  

Although she loves large animal medicine including horses and cows, her main interests involve small animal primary care, preventative medicine, and dentistry. She truly enjoys getting to know her clients and helping them develop a strong animal-owner bond.

While not working, Dr. Burgos enjoys spending time with her husband and family, exploring the outdoors – hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, running, working out, as well as watching football and eating pizza!
